The Strongside Linebacker (or Left Outside Linebacker (LOLB)) is a member of the defense and is usually the strongest of all the linebackers. He is often used in run blocking situations. He is called the strongside linebacker because he plays on the strong side – the side the tight end plays on – and is nicknamed the “Sam” linebacker.
